MADRID. March 30,

Martial law has been proclaimed in the city and Civil Guards.are conducting a house to house search. Preparations are being made for a victory march, including a parade of 100,000 women wearing mantillas. A decree orders public employees, soldiers, nightwatchmen, and all those who have knowledge of crimes committed under the republican control of the city to appear before a military court within three days and demands the handing over of republican propagandist documents.

All the members of the National Defence Council were detained, except General Miaja and Colonal Casado, head of the council, who have left the city. Falangists numbering 1200. are maintaining order.

The Madrid correspondent of "The Times v estimated the strength of General Franco's fifth column at 40,000, hence there was no disorder' in v the city after, the removal of republican authority. Falangist pickets rounded up minor' leaders, who are awaiting trial.

An official communique issued at Salamanca stated that 14,723 prisoners and deserters were captured on the Valencia front; two brigades and six battalions surrendered, and 70.0&0 prisoners were captured in the southern zone arid three battalions surrendered and thousands were captured or surrendered on the Toledo front.
