CROSSING RAILWAY LINES
Giving evidence at the inquest today into the death of a railway employee who was struck by an outbound electric train while he was. crossing the tracks in the Thorndon yards, Constable E. Burnett, of Thorndon, stated that numerous persons had been convicted for trespassing on the railway, and he had personally pointed out to the railway authorities his observations regarding offences by their own staff. As a result, he understood that notices had beert exhibited by the Railway Department in its various branches drawing the attention of employees to the practice. It was a fairly common offence until prosecutions were commenced about eighteen months ago, he said, but since then it had reached a minimum.
