TROTTING BREVITIES

De la Paix was sore when she pulled up after winning at Wanganui last Saturday, and she has been returned south in company with Major Guy, who was also successful at the same meeting. Fine Art was in the boom when he annexed four races in quick succession early in the season, but his recent form has been most disappointing, and he will have to do a lot better to hold his own at Addington at Easter.

Colonel Grattan is one of the speediest horses in the Dominion up to a mile and a half, and he should prove a good proposition to follow over the Easter meetings. It was pleasing to see Diltest earn a winning bracket at Wanganui last Saturday, for she has been racing for some time without any the best of luck.

Peggotty, who is reported to be exceptionally well at the moment, is now trained by her owner, as J. Behrens has set up as a public trainer at Methven. She should earn some money when the tighter limits rule.

Popeye is easily the best prospect seen out at the Wanganui Meetings, and he is not likely to be at any fancy price next time he competes. He has speed to burn, and his barrier manners are improving with racing.

Parauri is to be one of F. J. Smith's team for Addington next month, and in the loose-class events he sho.uld be worthy of support, for he can both sprint and stay. . ■

Narbada ran two promising races at Wanganui last week, and she should be worth keeping in mind for a maiden event while the classes are loose. She is a good beginner, and that is a big factor in this type of race.

Parisienne and Lucky Jack are progressing in their preparations for Easter racing, and both should lack nothing on the score of condition at Addington next month.

Southern Chief has now joined up with R. B. Berry's stable. He has just returned from a spell and is in great fettle. If he could be induced to stay on at the end of his races he would soon add to his winnings.
