EXPLANATION ACCEPTED

At the instigation of the stipendiarysteward, Mr. J. S. Shaw, an inquiry was held at Oamaru on Saturday into the running of Stormtost in the Waikaura Trot, as compared with his display in the Weston Trot on the first day. The judicial committee decided that the action of the stipendiary steward was quite justified, but because there was insufficient evidence to warrant any action being taken, it was resolved to allow the judge's placings to stand. It was pointed out that the investments on Stormtost on the first day were £35 win and £51 10s place, and on Saturday were £182 and £188 10s respectively.
