FAREWELL TO MR. KM.
CARLSON:,
The esteem in which the: Lowler'Hutt community holds Mr. J. ;M.','Garteon, manager of the local picture theatre at Lower Hutt, was shown by the Jarga gathering last evening to bid him farewell prior to his visit to England/and Scotland. : Mr. William O.v.Gtfegbry,-' vice-presi-dent, who occupied the chair,'spoke of the active part Mr. Carlson had taken, not.only in the Chamber of Commerce, but in all matters affecting the welfar* of the borough. He presented the guest with a chiming clock.
Mr. A. J. Gearing spoke of the goodfellowship of Mr. Carlson, arid hoped he would, on his *tra,vels, find use for the diary and fountain pen.which, on behalf of those present, he presented to Mr. Carlson.. ; ■
The Mayor (Mr... J. W; Andrews) made special reference to Mr. Carlson's work in assisting the relief committee, and also to his good example to the community in citizenship.
In his reply; Mr. Carlson said it had given him the greatest pleasure to be of assistance, and . that, his work for the Dramatic Society and for the relief committee had'been a. labour of love.
Mr. W. H. Smith made:a presentation to Mr. Carlson for his daughter, Miss Carlson.
