RUGBY FOOTBALL

EASTBOURNE CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING

Concern at'the lack of players, in the younger grades was expressed by Mr. W. F. Hornig, chairman of the Eastbourne Rugby Football Club, at its eighteenth. annual meeting rlast night. The club should try its hardest to get at least one team in the age grades, he said. If boys could' not: be got to play, the club would lack senior players later. It was up to every member to make an earnest, personal effort to secure boy players. They should see the parents of boys and generally encourage their attendance.

Without an under-age tearp the club could not go on, unless outside players were brought in. Outside players were welcome, but it was much more satisfactory later to see lads who had played with the club from the start secure football honours.

The club's financial position was, as always, strong, and the- management was to be congratulated. The social committee's wonderful work was1 reflected hot only in the financial position but in the good fellowship ; it created and the essential support it secured from residents;

The.club had three teams at the top and none underneath, said Mr. C. F. Houlton. It was. up to the playing members to get the boys in; there, were enough on the ground each time to make two or three teams. Mi-. Hornig referred to the loss,to the club through the deaths of Mr. George Law, patron, and Mr. S. Johns. The late Mr. Law had been toi a degree the backbone of'the club, said Mr. Hornig. He had given freely,, of his jtime and money in its interests. His great thought was to get the boys into the game and he went the right way. about it. In his life Mr. Law never refused help in a case of need. Mr. Johns had also beema great sportsman. Few would forget his wonderful work for the football queen in the last carnival. . It wasMecided to resume the annual matchv with'the Greytown Club.• ■The^signWon <>f Mr. M C : v^iH.as treasured was'accepted. /.. Mr. Hill has been transferred from the district.
