FAIR TO FINE

'FRESHENING WINDS

Special forecast for Wellington:— Light to moderate but freshening north-easterly winds. Weather fair to fine and mild. The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for light to moderate and variable winds in the northern half of the North Island. Elsewhere north-westerlies to will predominate. The latIter will be mainly light to moderate in force, but winds will become strong lat times in the Cook and Foveaux Straits areas. The weather' for the most part will be fair to fine, but some scattered and mainly light rain will develop later in Westland and in the far south. Temperatures will rise. An anticyclone covering the Dominion has been responsible for fine and mild weather generally. Yesterday, apart from some sea breezes on the coast, moderate southerly winds prevailed. This morning, however, owing to a very slight depression passing in the south, winds have become westerly or northerly in direction southward from Taranaki and Hawke's Bay, freshening somewhat about Cook Strait. Although skies have become rather cloudy in the far south, the weather is still fine. Auckland had another fine and warm day yesterday, with a light south-south-westerly wind which by this morning had turned to a light easterly. The maximum temperature was 71.3 degrees and the minimum 59 degrees. Wellington's weather has been sunny and mild. The wind yesterday was a light southerly, but a freshening ! northerly was blowing this morning. Bright sunshine yesterday totalled 8.5 hours, and the maximum and minimum temperatures were 63.8 and 51 degrees respectively. Christchurch had some scattered cloud yesterday morning, but since then the sky has been clear with a moderate to fresh north-easterly. Temperatures were moderate, with 62.1 degrees as the maximum and 46.3 degrees as the minimum. Dunedin had clear and mild weather yesterday with a light north-easterly breeze, but the weather this morning was rather cloudy with warm temperatures.
