PARADE AT PETONE
ATHLETIC GATHERING
An athletic meeting run by the Petone Amateur Athletic and Cyclmg Club preceded by a procession through Jackson Street, comprised last evening's programme for Fitness weeic for the combined boroughs of Lower Hutt and Petone. The event drew the largest following of the public of any event held during the week, the crowd | on the Recreation Ground being esti-j mated at fully 5000. The procession was led by the Hutt Valley Pipe Band and the Hutt Valley Technical College Bandj There were a number of decorated vehicles and various organisations, took part, but the chief attractionrwasi the marching of the pupils of the Hutt Valley Mlmorial Technical College. ; These were in sections comprising in each case a sports group, and were dressed in their uniforms. There were sections representing Rugby, Association, hockey, baseball, cricket, tennis, basketball, etc., and the varied coloured uniforms made a brilliant display. In addition to the sports items, which followed the procession ,on the Recreation Ground, there were displays of wrestling by the Petone Wrestling Club, and a baseball match in which Capstan beat Petone by 15 to 10. Electric Power Board, 1; Railway Workshops, 2. Time, 53 3-ssec. Second heat: General Motors, 1; Wills, 2. Time, 52 l-ssec. Final: General Motors, 1; H.V. Electric Power Board, 2; Wills, 3.
