SCOTTISH DANCING

A large attendance of members and friends of the Wellington Caledonian Society was present last Saturdayevening at the dancing competitions conducted by the society for the Beenie Ballantyne Memorial Cup and the Graham Moffat Cup. The Beenie Ballantyne Cup was open to children under 12 years of age and the Graham Moffat Cup to those from 12 to 16 years". Each competition was of three divisions —Highland fling, seann triubhais, and gillie callum. There were five entries in each competition. The judge was Miss Hazel Martin. The results are as follows: — Beenie Ballantyne Cup.—Audrey Young, 1; Audrey Cuthbert, 2; Joan Dunstal and Noal Hansen, equal, 3. Graham Moffat Cup.—Edna Whitelaw, 1; Peggy McKinnon, 2; Jean Kerr, 3. The trophies and medals were presented by Mr. Ballantyne. After the competitions a programme of old-time and Scots dancing was held, Mr. H. Clark acting as M.C. Mrs. McGowan's "Hill Billies" gave a number of enjoyable items during the evening. Piano and piano-accordion accompaniments were given by Mrs. McGowan and the piping for the dances was given by Pipe-Major C. Stewart and Pipe Lance-Corporal G. Fraser. The next function of the society will be the piping competitions for the Nimmo and Harrap Cups.

E. Johnston and Co., auctioneers, will sell household furnishings at the residence, 23 Lancaster Street, Karori, tomorrow at 10.30 a.m.
