DIPHTHERIA IMMUNISATION
The importance of immunising children against diphtheria by means of anti-toxiri and the efficacy of the treatment in children of pre-school age formed the subject of an address yesterday by Dr. B. Wyn Irwin to members of the Wellington Health Club, in the St. John Ambulance Hall, Vivian Street, Wellington. An American film on the subject was shown and explained by Dr. Irwin. Preliminary skin-tests have been made of children attending the Buckle Street Convent, and the next school to be visited will be Mt. Cook. At this school, where the roll number is approximately 550, the parents of 431 children have already signified their consent to their children receiving the treatment. Dr. Irwin said yesterday that it was hoped to begin the immunisation of the Newtown School children towards the end of the term.
