INDIGENOUS HYBRIDS
In order to help the public to think of native plants in tonns of family, the exhibits at the exhibition now open at the Dominion Museum ate being displayed, where practicable, in family groups, such as the daisy family, the bean family, the matipo family, and so on. Side by side at the daisy table may be seen two examples of hybridism. In one case is shown foliage of Olsaria Angustifolia and Olearia ColensoL parents, and with them their hybrid, in flower. The hybrid was formerly regarded as a species, and was called Olearia Traillii. The other case of .hybridism, illustrated by foliage, is that of Olearia arborescens and Olearia ilicifolia. The hybrid was formerly regarded as a species, and was called Olearia macrodonta. These, of course, are not the only cases nf hybridism in evidence, but they are of particular interest. (
