MISSION WORK
LONDON SOCIETY
The annual meeting of the Wellington auxiliary of the London Missionary Society was held on Wednesday night at the Terrace Congregational Church. The Rev. Arthur Muriel, 8.A., presided.
The secretary in his annual report stated that outstanding events during the year were the visit of the Rev. B. T. Butcher, on his return journey to England after 34 year^' service at Aird Hill, Papua, and the departure of the Rev. John Gilkison from the Wellington auxiliary for service also in Papua.
The trophy for collecting for the mission ship, John Williams, was again held by the Sunday school at the Miller Memorial Church, Napier.
The financial statement showed an advance upon the amount raised for the previous year—an all-round increase in general subscriptions.
The officers elected for 1939 were:— President, the Rev. Arthur Muriel; secretary, Miss Heather Mill; treasurer, Mr. R. J. Crawford; auditor, Mr. T. Forsyth; Watchers' Prayer Union secretary, Mrs. Lyon; minute and magazine secretary, Miss V. Fergus; stamp agent, Miss H. Mill.
At the public meeting which followed the Rev. W. H. Newell, M.A., described the workers and the district in the society's Papuan field, incidentally saying farewell to Miss Ngaire Mill, who, having served many years with the society in Tuhuila, Samoa, was leaving by the Wanganella on her way to Mailu, Eastern Papua, there to be married to the Rev. John Gilkison and become associated with him in that sphere of service.
