HANDICAPPING RULE
A recent amendment to the rules of the handicapping system provides that a horse winning a free-for-all race, even though it be a third victory over a sprint distance, shall not incur a penalty in long-distance events. This is a concession that will be much appreciated by owners, and while a free-for-all winner is liable to a penalty in future sprint events, it is hoped that in the near future further amendments will do away with all penalties for wins in this class of race. Only by the deletion of all provision for penalties will the best horses receive the right encouragement. '
. During the last week or two there have been several arrivals at Takanini, and F. Smith and P. E. Pope have further acquisitions to their teams. Smith has received the two-year-old Constant Son filly Constant Star, and Pope has received another Constant Son representative, Buccaneer, who has, beenadded to the list since last racing.
