EXCELLENT FIELDS

WAIKATO MEETING

PROSPECTS FOR TOMORROW

(Special from "Early Bird.")

AUCKLAND, This Day.

The Auckland provincial circuit will be continued with the Waikato Racing Club's Summer Meeting at Te Rapa tomorrow and on Monday, and, as usual, the fields are of a splendid class, with quite a few horses from southern centres competing. This fine track is in excellent order and the sport should be of the best. The betting will be under the win-and-place system.

VALUABLE OPEN EVENT.

The feature event of the opening day is the £700 Storey Memorial Handicap, run over 1 mile and 3 furlongs, a distance that on this track requires stamina as a first essential to success. Among the favourites are likely to be Malagigi and Lady Montana, both of whom are capable of getting the distance.1 Malagigi finished second in the Takapuna Gup, and though he failed on heavy ground on the final day, it was that first-day effort following a spell from racing that-attracted attention to his immediate prospects. Lady Montana is back to her best form and she has previously raced well at Te Rapa. Round Up, King Rey (last year's winner), Cheval de Volee, Scotland, Gay Rose (second last year), and Jonathan (third last year) are all prospects on their recent form, and Jack Tar (who has recently had a change of stables), Sergia, Black Musk, and Parquet are possible surprises. The sprint field in the President's Handicap is of a useful size. Llangbllen won so well under 9.10 last Saturday that she should go close to repeating her victory in this class at Te Rapa in the spring. Suleiman led all the way at Ellerslie three weeks ago, first up for the season, and that is form that cannot be overlooked. Royal Bachelor has won twice in his last few outings and Bachelor King scored here in the spring. Farland, of course, regards Te Rapa as a home away from home, for he has wci all his five races on this course and he is still fit and well. Royal Appellant may be a surprise packet. Sweet Rose and Tosh are speedy, and Lornacre, le Monowai, Royal Vaals, Lady Meath, and Tepofo are possible lightweights.
