WESTERN HUTT ROAD
AVAILABLE TO TRAFFIC
The Western Hutt Road, hitherto closed on account of the unfinished state of the approaches to the new bridge at Silverstream, will be open to traffic tomorrow and during the weekend, and will probably remain open continuously. The approaches are now in order, but parts of the road near the bridge still require attention.
The work done on the HaywardsPahautanui road has provided a means for northern coastal traffic to reach Trentham without making the detour which took motorists nearly into Wellington, and the new route will be extensively used on race days. The new route will no doubt see heavy traffic from the city also, and care will be necessary by drivers at the level crossing at Lower Hutt, where the visibility is particularly bad, and the rail traffic frequent.
Members of the New Zealand junior tennis team, wlrich left last night by the Wanganella for Australia, were entertained at luncheon yesterday by the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association.
