DEWAR SHIELD MEETING

The season's second amateur athletic contest for the Dewar Shield will be held at Hataitai Park tomorrow. With the provincial meeting only a week away, local athletes, with pretensions to championship honours, will be all out to make the most of their last opportunity for inter-club competition before the championship gathering. Particular interest attaches to the appearance of A. M. Sutherland in the 220 yards. Sutherland, who was reinstated this week, earned a big reputation as a profes-, «ional runner, and it will be interest-' j ing to see how he shapes against the leading Wellington sprinters, among whom is the present national champion G. Quinn. J. M. Watt, one of the best quarter-milers in the country, is to compete tomorrow for the first time this season. If ; he finds his form justifies it, he will run in the 440 yards at the championship meeting. Among other prominent competitors participating will be C. Robinson, J. Evans, a particularly promising quarter-miler, J. Ford, J. Eastwood, E. Phillips, F. Taylor, T. McCashin. The meeting is to start at 2.15 p.m.
