THEFT FROM CAR
SHOES PLACED UNDER COAT
A sentence of one month's imprisonment with hard labour was imposed upon Leonard Brendon Collins, a labourer, aged 34, who appeared before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today, and pleaded gudlty to the theft of a pair of shoes valued at 7s 6d, the property of A. N. Willison.
Mr. Willison- parked his motor-car outside his company's premises ia Taranaki Street, said Sub-Inspector J. A. Dempsey, who prosecuted. At 1.45 p.m. yesterday he looked outside and saw the accused at his car. The door was open and he was leaning into it. He said he was just closing the door. Mr. Willison noticed a bulge under the accused's coat, and found a pair of shoes belonging to himself.
The accused was making one of his many appearances before the Court, the majority of these being for theft, said Sub-Inspector Dempsey.
The accused stated that he had been offered work by the Salvation Army. He was prepared to take out a prohibition order.
