ASSAULT SUSPECTED

WIDESPREAD INQUIRIES

HAMILTON, February 12,

• The death occurred in tLe Waikato Hospital at 4 o'clock on Friday afternoon of Mr. George Kahi, aged 24, single, labourer, of Pukekohe, who was found lying at the side of Massey Road, Te Kauwhata, on the evening of January 28 suffering from severe head injuries.

- Mr. Kahi is believed to have been the victim of an assault, as a bloodstained piece of wood was found the following morning close to where he was discovered. Particles of wood were later removed from the wounds in Mr. Kahi's head.

Detectives from Auckland have been assisting in a widespread inquiry into the affair. The inquiry is proceeding.
