CHECKING A PEST

Twenty thousand Japanese beetles are captured every "day in the forty traps set'« for the insect pests in the Bronx Botanical Gardens, New York. Millions of these beetles have invaded the shrubbery in the New York area and with the plague still menacing, the authorities have asked professional and amateur gardeners to co-operate in the defensive fight. The insect is about the size of a horsefly. Experts are experimenting to find the best means of killing the beetles and checking their spread.
