BOYS' INSTITUTE CAMP
For the past two years the Boys' Institute has held its annual camp on Mr. W. H. Field's property at Waikanae.
This year sixty institute members took advantage of the ideal site to spend ten happy days under canvas.
The director of the institute, Mr. B. A. Mabin, the institute's sports master, Mr. Olsen, and Messrs. H. Ware, H. Donkin, and A. H. Brown, supervised the boys' activities. 'One of the events most looked forward to was community singing round the camp fire. On one occasion the boys were joined by the Boys' Brigade campers and the boys entertained each other with camp-fire stories and favourite songs. ■■
On Sunday evening the service was conducted round the camp fire by Mr. H. Ware.
Other happy occasions were a visit of the campers to Campbell's Mill and to the Boys' Brigade camp. Among visitors to the camp were Mr. W. A. Parton, chairman of the management committee, and Mrs. Parton, Mr. H. Leah, vice-president, and Mrs. Leah.
The thanks of the campers are due to Mrs. Parton for her generous gift of twenty plum puddings, which were greatly enjoyed by the boys. Thanks are also due to Mr. D. A. Carty for 60 threepenny pieces to be inserted in the puddings, and to Mr. A. E. Preston for a donation towards the meals in camp.
