MANA STUD OFFERINGS

A sale of brood mares, horses in ■training, untried stock, etc, was held at Trentham yesterday, arid included in the offerings1-were.the- members of Mr. R. .W; H. Holden's Mana.-. Stud, Hawke's .Bay, together with, the- sire Siegfried. r Mr. A. Chisholm. of Otau^au, Southland, went to1 800 guineas; to secure Siegfried,"the.sire of- Wotan,.winner of the Melbourne Cup in 1936 in record time; 'Essex,- •'winner-of rthe- Great Northern Derby; Brunhild, winner of the New Zealand .Oaks; .Lady 'Furst, a; very promising, middles-distance, performer and snjinter; Wilson; arid iother high-class horses. : ■ Lilock, the leading brood mare of the 'stud, with a brown filly by Siegfried and seryed by Siegfried, brought 700 guineas. She was purchased by-Mr. C. ;Wheeler, of Adelaide. Lilock is the 'dam of Wilson, one of the most promising two-year-olds in Australia this year. The Siegfried—Lilock colt sold at the yearling sales this week brought 1400 guineas, and was also bought by Mr. Wheeler. '

Princess Bell,, from the same stud, with a.bay filly by Siegfried and serv;ed by Siegfried, brought 450 guineas, toeing, purchased by Mr. W. J. Smith, of Sydney, who operated very freely at the yearling sales. The third top price of the sale was 650 guineas* paid for Blue Maid, with a bay colt foal, by Bulandshar and served by Bulandshar, sold on account of Mr. J. S. McLeod, Hastings. She was also bought by Mr. W. J. Smith, of Sydney.'"

A two-year-old bay filly by Harinero out of Headlight, who was sold in the Mana Stud lot, was bought by Mr. J. H. Jefferd, Ngatarawa, Hawke's Bay, for 260 guineas.
