MR. FRANCIS D. SLADDEN
.Mr. Francis Dilnot Sladden, a wellknown figure in commercial circles, died at Hanmer Springs recently at the age of 69. Mr. Sladden was a son of the late Mr. Dilnot Sladden, who was one of the early Canterbury settlers and. a pioneer in the meatfreezir industry.:.
In lc~l Mr,. Sladden came to Wellington from-Ghristchurch, and took up residence at Petone. He followed
the growing meat industry, joining the staff of the Wellington Meat Exporting Company, of which his father was general manager. On his father's death he became manager of the company; a position which he held until his retirement about three years ago. During his term of office, he made several business trips to England.
After his retirement, Mr. Sladden lived at Eastbourne, but some time ago went to Hanmer Springs for health reasons. He was unmarried.
Mr. Sladden was a foundation member of the Hutt Valley Horticultural Society, and a member of that society's executive for many years. He took a keen interest in the.1 work of the society, and was well-known as a bulb-grower. He was also a member of the Wellington Racing Club and the Wellesley Club.
