"NO SHACKS"

SEASIDE RESORTS

HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL'S

DECISION

No more shacks are to be erected between Plimmerton and Paraparaumu beach. The Hutt County Council, at its meeting yesterday, definitely put its foot down on the erection of any buildings that do not meet with its approval, or are not in accordance with town-

planning principles,

The matter came up for discussion when permission was sought for the removal of a two-roomed building frorrr Hopper Street to the Dolly Varden estate. The City Council had granted permission for the building to be erected and used as a dwelling about twelve years ago. The building was well constructed and sound. The applicant said he intended to add a verandah to it.

Councillor A. L. Button said It was time the council took steps to "cut out" shacks. The approach to Plimmerton had been spoilt, and he considered that the new town-planning bylaws should be rigidly adhered to.

It was decided to inform the applicant that the council had decided to put into operation the provisions of the Town-Planning Act.

An advertisement appears in this issue to the effect that by two Orders-iin-Couneil bearing date October 6, 1938, and November 9, 1938, the Hutt County Council has been required to prepare extra-urban planning schemes in respect of the Taupo riding and that part of the Whareroa riding lying between the railway line and the sea coast and comprising the townships of Plimmerton, Karehana Bay, Pukerua Bay, Paekakariki, Raumati, Paraparaumu, and Paraparaumu Beach. / Under section 34 of the Town-Planning Act, 1926, the council is empowered, absolutely or conditionally, to refuse, its consent to or definitely prohibit the erection of any building, or the carrying out of any work if it appears to the council that the erection of such building, or the carrying out of such.work be in contravention of the scheme.if it had been completed and approved, or would be in contravention of. town-planning principles, or would;interfere with the amenities of the neighbourhood. Persons contemplating, the subdivision of land or .the erection of buildings or the carrying out of works are advised to confer with the council before any plans are prepared or expenses incurred.
