SHIPPING OUTLOOK

HOPE FOR IMPROVEMENT

LONDON, December 22

The Duke of Kent, presiding at the council of the King George Fund for Sailors, said: "I was perhaps a trifle over-optimistic last year when I said that the shipping outlook was more cheerful, because after that shipping experienced a very difficult time. Yet I hope and believe that the situation will shortly improve as trade is increasing.

"I am confident that when I next preside —which won't be for some years, because of my visit to Australia —I shall find the degree of prosperity firmly established." The Duke added that the fund had completed 21 years' work for seamen.
