DAIRY DIVISION
CHIEF CLERK TO RETIRE
Members of the Dairy Division of the Department of Agriculture met yesterday to make a presentation to the divisional clerk, Mr. J. S. Fleming, who will retire at the end of thismonth after thirty-seven years with the Department. The Director df the Dairy Division, Mr. W. M. Singleton, made the presentation and wished Mr. Fleming happiness and prosperity in his retirement.
Mr. Fleming joined the Department in 1901 as a temporary clerk at the Moumahaki Experimental Farm, under the Fields Division. He was transferred to the Dairy Division in 1903, when he took up duties as grader's clerk in New Plymouth. In 1905 he was! transferred to Wellington and- in 1909 was promoted to divisional clerk. " Mr. Fleming has been: a member of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society for a number of years. In his youth he played senior cricket for the old Phoenix Club and was also a wellknown Rugby football player.
