Professor Karl yon Eicken, the Berlin throat specialist, visiting the United States, recently described to a gathering of doctors the operation which he1 performed on Herr Hitler four years ago for the removal of a polypus or tumour. He recalled the anxiety felt when the Fuhrer, who seldom, sleeps more than four or five hours a night, failed to rally from the effects of morphine for fourteen hours. This he attributed .to the fact that HenHitler neither smokes nor drinks. Professor yon Eicken stated: "Herr Hitler would not believe me when told that the ailment was a simple polypus,,because he had become convinced that he was suffering from cancer."
