Little change of pressure has taken place in the New Zealand area, barometers remaining low to the south and east and high to the west. Weak disturbances crossing the South Island have given rain at times in most of the Island, whUe very severe hall storms ' have caused considerable damage ,in Canterbury. Otherwise, except for occasional showers in western districts, the weather has. been fair. Prevailing winds in the North Island have been moderate to strong between west and south-west, and in the South Island light southerlies, the latter giving cold temperatures with snow, on some of the high levels. An. extensive tropical storm has doveloped In the Fiji Group.
