FAIR TO CLOUDY WEATHER

Special forecast for Wellington:—

Light but freshening northwesterly winds. Weather fair to cloudy and warm.

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing 24 hours, is for light to moderate northerly to northwesterly winds, which will freshen gradually especially about and south of Cook Strait. The weather will still be cloudy and warm, and in places misty. Rain is probable on the west coast of the South Island and in scattered places elsewhere.

The same rather featureless type of meteorological situation that has prevailed for some days has continued during the last 24 hours. Pressure has remained relatively high and very steady over the Dominion. Barometers this morning, however, were beginning to fall in the far south, pointing to the probability that the depression which has been over the Tasman Sea has at last begun to make some progress eastward. Light to moderate north-easterly to north-westerly' winds ha"^e been practically general, and the weather has been cloudy and warm. Rain occurred last night in the southern portion of the Auckland Province, and- there have been light and irregular falls as fa** south as Greymouth. the highest total recorded being 13 points at Auckland. There was fog or mist most of yesterday along the Canterbury and Otago coasts, and fog was still persisting In a few places this morning.

Auckland's weather yesterday was cloudy and muggy, with intermittent rain which totalled 13 points. The maximum temperature was 78.3 degrees and the minimum 62.6 degrees. Yesterday's light vesterly wind had veered by this morning to the north and the weather had improved somewhat.

In Wellington it was sunny and warm, with passing cloud and a light northerly breeze, 6.6 hours of bright sunshine being recorded. The maximum temperature was 67.8 degrees and the minimum 55.9 degrees. Conditions during last night were rather threatening and one point of rain fell between 3 and 4 a.m. The weather this morning was continuing dull and warm.

Apart from a brief spell of sunshine in the afternoon, Christchurch had overcast weather yesterday, Temperatures were mild, the maximum and minimum being 66.1 and 55.9 degrees respectively. The wind was a light southerly breeze, but the \yind, by this morning had changed to" the north-east again and was freshening.

Dunedin had an overcast and misty morning and evening, but the afternoon was fairly sunny. There was mist or fog throughout last night, but this had cleared away by 9 a.m. today. A rather keen north-easterly breeze has prevailed.
