LOAN PROPOSAL

REQUEST TO MINISTER

(Special to the "Evening Post.")

MASTERTON, This Day.

A decision to request the Masterton County Council, through Mr, J. Robertson, M.P., to ask the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple) to visit the district' and inspect each of the proposed bridge and road works included in a loan proposal, with a : view to obtaining a greater subsidy than £1 for £1, was reached by a meeting of ratepayers of the Upper Taueru Riding, held at Bideford, The chairman.,of . the Masterton County Council, Mr, R. ;E. Gordon Lee, who presided, outlined the proposals to raise a special loan over the whole riding, towards the cost of which. th^ Government had provided a £1 ,'tcft £1 subsidy. The proposed works are: Wainui-o-mapu Stream bridge No. ,1, Wainui-o-mapu Stream bridge No. 2, Miller's Road Bridge, and Mahgarei Road metalling, of a total cost of £6754. The total Government subsidy on these works on a £1 for £1 basis of the subsidisable items would be £3302 and the cost to the Upper-Taueru Riding was estimated at £3500.
