MOTHERS AT PETONE

SUCCESSFUL MEETING

Over 200 members and friends met recently in the Oddfellows' Hall, when the Petone branch of the League of Mothers held their final meeting, for the year. ' The stage was artistically decorated with beautiful spring flowers and lilies. Mrs. Millward paid a tribute to the memory of the late Mrs. James Kerr, first president of the branch, and all present stood in silence. , Visitors were welcomed from the Kelburn, Lyall Bay, and Hataitai branches. Presentations were made to Mrs. Johnson (treasurer), Mrs. Coleman (choir leader), and Mrs. Greenfield (tea convener). Beautiful shoulder sprays were handed to all officers. Mrs. Rae gave a clever character sketch entitled "The Servant," and was presented with a posy. The choir rendered three numbers under the baton of Mrs. Coleman. A short farce was then presented, those taking part being Mesdames Amies, Miller, Porter, Leslie, and Wilson. . During afternoon tea Mrs. Brocklebank cut the Christmas cake. A one-act play was presented by the drama circle, those taking part being Mesdames Miller, Rowe, May, Amies, Porter, and Jones. A very enjoyable meeting closed .with ; the singing of the National Anthem.
