SWIMMING

ORIENTAL BAY GALA

The V.M.C.A. Swimming and Lifesaving Club takes up the first of its beach patrols at Oriental Bay for this season tomorrow afternoon.

The occasion will be treated by the club as a gala afternoon, commencing at 2.30, and there will be a full programme of swimming events, pyramids, and races on the beach to the extent made possible by the state of the tide. A special feature of the afternoon will be an original parade at 3 o'clock, in which prizes will be given to children who wear the most humorous and the most original bathing costumes, preferably home-made Any child may enter this contest, for which there is ho entry fee. Children attending will be given free canoe rides if the weather is favourable.

During the afternoon adults and children who wish to learn to swim may register with officials of the club. There is no charge for tuition. <
