RECEIPTS INCREASE
HUTT POWER BOARD
An increase in receipts was reported to the meeting of the Hutt Valley Eleo trie Power Board yesterday afternoon, Mr. A. W. Press being in the chair.
Comparisons of power .sales were given as'follows by the engineer and general manager (Mr. E. F. Hollands) for the period from April 1 to October 31, the figures for the same, period last year being in parentheses: Availability rate £39,723 2s 8d (£40,459 19s 4d); commercial lighting, £10,153 lis 2d (£8351 10s 9d); water heating, £8774 3s lid (£7126 lis 3d); power, £23,576 Os 8d (£21,173 8s 2d); public lighting, £2630 16s 2d (£2578 6s); totals (discount deducted), £77,974 5s 5d (£73,356 8s 8d); an increase of £4617 16s 9d.
During October 65 new consumers were connected to the board's reticulation, and a further 120 additions were made to existing installations.
The Public Works Department advised the following accidents to the power line in the Ngahauranga Gorge road:—November 2, 11 a.m., a line which appeared to have some strands broken was severed by blasting operations; November 3, noon, the two remaining lines were severed by further blasting operations at the same locality. On both occasions the power was off.
The chairman said this explanation showed that these accidents in the gorge were not the fault of the board. The district engineer wrote ing Mr. Hollands for his action in sending out a gang to assist in restoring the power when an aeroplane collided with the power lines at Pahautanui oa November 5.
