SECESSION MOVE

CANADIAN PROVINCES

DISAPPOINTING RESPONSE

OTTAWA, October 26,

The response to the Saskatchewan farmers' move for the secession of the prairie provinces has been disappointing to its. sponsors. Manitoba and Alberta are Opposed and British Columbia is lethargic.

The Premi&r of Ontario, Mr. Mitchell Hepburn, declares that the province is at the breaSdng point regarding concessions made to the west. The country in general is paying for a 30,000,000----dollar loss through the guaranteed wheat price for the benefit of the western farmers, and the east is paying the greater part. """

The movement for secession is based chiefly on the fitlleged farm implement tariff discrimination and the failure of the Government to peg wheat at one dollar instead o!f 80 cents.
