MARLBOROUGH CATTLE
HERDS
(By Telojraph.) (Special to we "Eveninu. rost.") BLENHEIM, This Day. ' With a view to building up th« quality of breeding cattle in-Marl-borough, four well-known stationowners, Messrs. W. S. Bennett, J» Freeth Ward, E. W. Moore, Kererangu. and W. J. Brownlee, Havelock, hay* combined in purchasing a line of 103 polled Aberdeen Angus two-year-old: heifers from various parts of the Nortfc Island. The line, which was selected by Mr. Bennett from leading, herds in the Pahiatua, Woodville, and Hunterville districts, comprises some particularly well-bred stock. The cattle w»# brought to Picton from WanganuVbjr the Alexander, which was specially chartered for the trip. In addition to *he heifers Mr. Brownlee has purw chased a valuable Aberdeen Angus bull from a leading North Island stud. The cattle will greatly improve' th» quality of the gradually-declining. M*rlborough stock, and they should do well on the hill country Of some of the Marlborough stations. Within a few years they should do much towards-ad-vancing the districts* representation 4s a producer of fat cattle, especially when the South Island main- trunk railway is completed, enabling *th« trucking of fat beefs to southern markets. - •<—
