MISS COAD RESIGNS

EXPRESSIONS OF REGRET

The Wellington College Board of Governors received with regret yesterday the resignation of Miss N. E. Coad, a member of the teaching staff of the Wellington Girls' College. It was decided to place on record the board's appreciation of Miss Coad's loyalty and service during her association with the college. Miss Coad's resignation will take effect from February 1 next.

Miss Coad has for. many years been, closely connected with the educational life of the Domii^m. She is an exinember of the Council of Education and of the University Entrance Board. For five years she was president of the New Zealand Women Teachers' Association, .and for four years president of the Wellington branch of the National Council of Women. She is also an ex-member of the N.Z.E.1., and a vice-president of the Secondary Schools' Association. She was also a member of the committee set up by

Sir James Parr when Minister of Edu« cation to draw up syllabuses in Iris* tory, civics, and geography for secondary schools and training colleges. For three years she was chairman of the Wellington branch of the Institute of Pacific Relations, and in 1937 she represented New Zealand at the International P.E.N. Congress held in Paris.

Miss Coad has much literary work to her credit. She is the author of several text-books for secondary schools, and of "New Zealand: From Tasman to Massey." Having made a special study of the history of New Zealand and the Pacific Ocean, the articles which from time to time she has contributed to "The Post" and other, journals, both in New Zealand and abroad, are well and favourably known.
