The "Daily Mail," in a leader; says: "The completing of • the proposed three American trans-Pacific liners might see the extinction of British competition unless something is done in the meantime. :
"Seven years have passed since the hard-pressed British Pacific lines besought Government help against foreign subsidised tonnage. The question of laying down two British ships, which was postponed because of rising costs, should be reopened immediately. "Not prestige but security demands British maritime supremacy. Here is a matter which might well be handled by a new Ministry of Merchant Shipping." •
