LONDON, October 22.

The quarterly return of the British Chamber of Shipping shows that on October 2 there were laid up in th« ports oi Britain and Ireland 232 vessels of- 455,667 tons, the net increase of 123,663 tons being 37.2 per cent compared with July 1, and an increase of 356,171 tons compared with a year ago.
