FEILDINC CATTLE MARKET

FEILDING, October 21. About 5000 head of cattle flooded the Feilding saleyards today for the annual cattle fair. The sale attracted buyers from all parts of the North Island. The 1 stock generally were m good condition, but the market was definitely slow. Reserves were obviously too high,, and with the ; feed proposition not all that it might be in Hawke's Bay and other parts, there was a decided tendency to hold off. Good quality and well forward aged cattle sold well, but small and backward-conditioned lines were neglected. Together with the heavy entry of cattle, about 4000 head of sheep were yarded, and for these ! late rates ruled. Realisations were:— Cattle.— Three-year Hereford steers brought £9 lls to £9 17s 6d; well forward four- and five-year Hereford bullocks, £11 2s 6d; backward fouryear Hereford bullocks, £8 ss; good1 two- and three-year P.A. steers, £7 6s to £7 16s; best three-year P.A. steers, £9 12s to £10: four-year mixed coloured bullocks, £8 2s 6d; mixed three-year steers, £6 5s to £7 17s; good two-year P.A. heifers, £5 15s; empty P.A. cows, £4 12s 6d. Store Cattle.—Good yearling Jersey heifers, to £6 15s; others, £4 2s to £5 17s; two-year Shorthorn hexfers, £5; cows and calves, forward condition, £6; others, £3 16s to £4 Is; empty cows, heavy, to £4 14s; unfinished, £2 7s 6d to £3 3s 6d. Store Cattle.—Forward two-year Red Poll steers made £8 15s to £9 ss: two-year Hereford heifers, good, £7 lls, small £4; two-year Shorthorn heifers, £5 17s; very good yearling PA. steers, £6 lls to £7 Is; second quality, £5 10s to £6; others, £4 2s to £5; yearling P.A. heifers, £4 5s to Fat Cattle:—Medium prime P.A. cows, £9 to £10 16s: lighter prime, £7 5s to £8 17s 6d; Shorthorn-Hereford cows, £7 12s 6d to £8 13s 6d; light Jersey, £5 10s to £6 10s. Sheep.—Prime ewes sold from 19s 3d to 20s «d; second quality 16s 6d to 19s 9d; light, 13s 9d to 16s; prime maiden ewes, 24s 6d;' best hoggets, 25s 4d to 27s 6d; second grade, 23s 7d to 24s 8d; others, 10s 6d to 235; medium prime wethers, 24s to 25s 6d; light, 18s 6d to 225. ■ ■ Poultry.—Hens, 3s to 4s 3d; cockerels, Is 9d to 3s Id; hens and chicks, 4d to Is 7d. ' Pigs.—Small weaners, lls to 17s; others, 18s to £1 6s 6d; slips, £1 3s to £1 13s 6d; small stores, £1 Is to £1 12s; other stores, £1 17s; porkers, £1 lls; light baconers, 27s 6d.
