Perfect conditions ruled for the start of the Palmerston NorthrWellington amateur cycle race in which 67 riders competed. The veteran of the field, T. Young (Wellington), who is now in his 60th year, was sent off by the Mayor at 9.30 a.m. The youngest rider is G. A. Allan (Feilding).

Scratchings from the official list were C. Shilton (Christchurch), E. Wilson (Feilding), R. Wilson (Dannevirke), A. Cattermole (Christchurch), K. Atwell (Palmerston North), and L. Jonasen (Wellington).
