CANCELLED VISA

CASE OF MR. STRACHEY

NEW YORK, October 12.

The Secretary of State, Mr. Cordsll Hull, explained that the visa of Mr. John Strachey, British author and lecturer, who was denied admission to the United States, was cancelled owing to a misrepresentation on his part. Originally his entry into the United States was approved after he had taken an oath that he was not a member of the Communist Party. Later the Department received information that Mr. Strachey was a member of the Communist Party in Britain, and was elected to the executive oommittee at Birmingham on September 16.
