TURF NEWS IN BRIEF
The Masterton Meeting will be concluded tomorrow, when the racing again starts at 12.5 p.m. The name of Globe Trotter has been taken for Mr. W.. Higgins's SafariSight. Draft gelding in H. Telford's stable at Trentham.
R. E. Thomson had his first ride since his accident several months ago when he brought En Tour into second place in the steeples at Ellerslie on Monday.
It is stated that N. C. Trillo will shortly hand in his riding licence, as he plans to take up a position in commercial life.
Tableau and Gay Son, who were winners at Ellerslie on Monday, gave Beau Pere his first successes: in the Dominion this season. Beaucaire, one of the dead-heaters in the A. J.C. Breeders' Plate a week earlier, opened this sire's account for the season in Australia.
Myriam, who has been disappointing in her work and in her. racing since her good patch of form last season, is not to be persevered with further, and her owner intends to send her to the stud during the next month. Gay Hunting, who injured himself prior to the Otaki Meeting,, has since had a bad attack of kidney trouble, and although he has now recovered it is unlikely that he will race again for several months.
Royal Ace has brilliant speed, but at present five furlongs seems every bit far enough for him. No doubt he will improve with experience. With a stronger rider in the saddle, Royal Choice would have won the mile and a quarter hack event at Hastings very easily. He is not likely to be long in recuperating backers for their losses. '
Lady Furst, who created a good impression last season, is stated to be training on well, and her next appearance will create interest.
Mr. A. F. Symes has. a splendid type of yearling running in his paddocks by Bulandshar from La Moderne, and he is one of the likeliest youngsters seen this season. He is better grown than Gay Son, his half-brother, at the same age.
The most disappointing nomination for the Masterton Meeting was that received for tomorrow's Champion Hack Handicap, 1J miles. There were only eight entrants and the club will be hard pressed to secure half a dozen acceptors. It is a race that should suit Lustral,. but if. Earl Colossus or Twilight Song has made a good showing: today there may be support their .way; asj $v_ell_, . . ,
