MR. CHAPMAN'S CAMPAIGN
A meeting for women was addressed in Madame Logan Britton's room, Manners Street, yesterday afternoon by Mr. C. H. Chapman, Labour candidate for Wellington North. He dealt specially with benefits extended to women by the Labour Government. On the motion of Madame Logan Britton, who presided, a vote of thanks and confidence in the candidate was carried unanimously.'
Mr. Chapman also addressed an open-air meeting of about 100 persons in Cottleville Terrace last night. He dealt with the principal achievements of the Government and with the Social Security Act, and claimed it to be the most humanitarian legislation ever enacted. A vote of confidence was carried by acclamation. Mr. H. Childs presided.
A small outbreak of fire occurred in a wooden house in Tui Street at 11.13 a.m. today. The outbreak v/as extinguished by firemen using bucket pumps, and damage was confined to a kitchenette.
