DEATH OF RAKE OFF
The Nelson breeder-owner Mr. T. Newman, who in recent years has raced Diamond and Free Gold, has had the misfortune to lose his promising two-year-old Rake Off. , _ , As a result of injuring a foot, Rake Off was sent over to Nelson from Trentham for a short spell, and it was decided to geld him before returning him. While being thrown he broke a leg and his destruction was necessary. Rake Off was one of Croupier's first crop of foals, and he was generally conceded to be the most likely of them. His early work at Trentham was most impressive. He was out of the Paladin mare Zarisee, the dam also of Dollar Bill and Free Gold.
