OTAKI ACCEPTORS

WELL-BALANCED FIELDS

The well-balanced fields listed for the Otaki Maori Racing Club's Spring Meeting augur well for the success of the carnival to be held on Saturday. When acceptances fell due last evening there were several withdrawals, but there still remains the required material for first-class contests.

■ Six well-performed gallopers retained tneir grbuhd in the Ling Memorial, and special interest will centre in the efforts of Siegmund and Boomerang, who are among the entries for the New Zealand Cup. Lucullus Lad was successful at Wanganui, and Dorado at Marton last week. Good Sun and Galteemore have both displayed ability over a distance. The field engaged in the Hema Te Ao Handicap is one of the best that could be assembled, and a splendid race appears assured. Dungarvan and Friesland will be making their first appearance for some time, but the outing may provide a line upon their future prospects. Gay Chou and Alunga are capable performers over the distance, and Mittie won at Riccarton at her last start. One of the leading two-year-olds of last season in Surmount will open this term's campaign in the open seven, and his display will attract plenty of attention. Meamea should be benefited by his outing at Foxton, while there are several others near the minimum that will add interest to the event. The minor races embrace plenty 01 proved material, and in many races the issue is well concealed. The first race is due to commence at 12.15 p.m. A special train leaves Wellington for the course at 9.5 a.m. on Saturday. ~ . ' Betting will, be on the old system. The acceptances are:—
