TUDOR REAPPEARING

CORATO IS PROMISING

(Special from "Early Bird.")

AUCKLAND, September 27.

.After a long absence from racing Tudor is expected to make his reappearance in the hurdle r^ces at Taeroa and while he may be sound again the fact that the northern tracks are hardening up will not be in his favour. 'A novice expected to run prominently at the Ohinemuri Meeting is Corato, whose New Plymouth efforts a month ago were very encouraging.. He displayed fine speed in both outings and should be much improved as the result of the experience. Another three-year-old of whom big things were expected last season was Sir Robin* an Australian-bred colt by Christopher Robin. He revealed plenty of speed and it was apparent that he would make headway. He has had one outing this term, and he should show the value of that run when he is stepped out at Paeroa. The Ohinemuri Jockey Club's course at Paeroa is all in favour of the speedsters, for first round the turn is more often than not first home, despite the furlong-and-a-half straight. The top bend is on the down grade, particularly before making the home stretch, and it is this that gives the leaders a great advantage. , Requiem proved by her third in the Champion Hack Plate at Avondale that she is coming back to her best again. She is topweight in the Ohinemuri Hack Cup, andf if her rider receives an allowance her chances will be very much enhanced, otherwise the weight may tell against her. ,',.„■ An acceptor in the hurdles at Paeroa is High Star, who has run some good races in this department and appears to be quite nicely placed on Saturday next. He was raced on the flat at Avondale and showed that he is very forward by showing up for most of the way. The Paeroa hurdle races are often won from end to end, and in this respect he should .be able to fill the role most capably for he is a particularly smart jumper. Poland revealed a vast improvement in form at Avondale when he contested the hack sprints. On the first day he was not prominent, and on the second day he was very wide out making the home turn, yet despite the drawback he was right up fifth at the post. It is a long time since the Acre gelding was so prominent in a race and now that he appears to be returning to his best he should get his turn shortly. He has now changed ownership and stables. Son of the Soil is scheduled to reappear at the Ohinemuri Meeting. He has not raced for almost eighteen months, and may not be quite ready for the fray. The season before last, when racing in the colours of Mr. C. E. Robertson and trained by A. Cook, he revealed distinct promise, finishing second and running three thirds at two years old. '
