FINE ARTS ACADEMY

The opening of the annual exhibition of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts has a special interest this year, as it is the fiftieth anniversary of its inauguration. His Excellency the Governor-General will open the exhibition on Friday night, and later special entertainments will be given by the president, Mr. G. G. Gibbes Watson, and Mrs. Watson, and also by the Academy Council. It is hoped that the Wellington public will take a special interest in an occasion that means much to the encouragement of fine arts in the city. These have not always had the recognition due to them, and if a wider interest is taken it is more than possible that this reproach will be removed. *
