VOTERS OVERSEAS
The opinion that fuller provision should be made for taking the.votes of New Zealanders overseas at the time of the election was expressed by Mr. R. A. Wright, Independent candidate for. Wellington West, at Northland last night He said that at every General Election there were about 2000 people who did not vote. The newspapers had leading articles about the apathy of those people, but Mr. Wright thought that absence from New Zealand rather than apathy was the principal reason for their failure to vote. He had noticed in recent months a great exodus of travellers to Australia and England, and he thought there must be 3000 New Zealanders overseas, of whom 95 per cent, would vote, he thought, in the right direction, if they had the opportunity. Mr. Wright explained the provisions that had been made for New Zealander*s to vote in Australia or on the voyage between New Zealand and Australia, but thought that wider facilities should be given.
