BEACH IMPROVEMENT
EASTBOURNE PLAN
CENTENNIAL MEMORIAL
■' A plan for beautification of the Eastbourne foreshore between the Rona Bay Wharf and Windy Point (not far from the boundary of Day's Bay) as a Centennial memorial was placed before | the meeting of the Eastbourne Borough Council last evening. This plan, and an estimate of the cost, is to be sent in to the Provincial Centennial Council with an application for a subsidy. A public meeting of organisations in the borough is to be called arid schemes for raising money discussed.
The scheme provides for. the levelling of the sandhills and the erection of a 3ft wall for the promenade. A double avenue of quiclc-growing' trees will be planted at the back. At the wharf end of the lay-out there will be a raised terrace and band pavilion for adults. In the centre there is to be a sunken garden, with an illuminated fountain. At the other end will be a children's corner and boating lake 70ft in diameter. The scheme will be completed with terraces, shelters, greens, flower beds, and drinking fountains. It is proposed that the waves shall be floodlit. I
In order to ease traffic from the wharf entrance, sharp corners will be cut off and an island constructed.
