AFTERNOON RECEPTION

A delightful afternoon reception was given yesterday afternoon at the National Club by Mrs. G. F. Stone, in honour of Mrs. WillvAppleton,".wife of the National candidate, for Wellington Central. The five combined committees for this district were fully represented. The clubrooms. were beautifully decorated for the .occasion with attractive baskets of flowers. Irises, poppies, and daffodils: were effectively combined with greenery. •" . :

Mrs. Stone received her guests^ introducing Mrs. Appleton to the visitors as they arrived. Mrs. Stone wore a frock of black georgette, embossed in white, under a black georgette redingote, with black straw hat, and Mrs. Appleton was wearing a black ensemble under a hip-length mole coat and hat of hunters' green felt. Other guests of honour were the Hon. Adam Hamilton and Mrs. Hamilton and Mr. Will Appleton. Mrs. Hamilton wore a navy pin-stripe costume with white satin blouse, navy hat, and white fur stole. . Mrs. Stone gave a short address, in Which she explained that the object of the gathering was to enable people to meet Mrs. Appleton personally.

After Mr. Appleton had spoken, Mr. Hamilton congratulated the : electorate on their choice of a candidate.

Elocutionary items were given by Mrs. G. Castle and ..musical items by Mrs. A. Shepherd and Miss Florence Penny. Afternoon tea was served, after which Mrs. Appleton expressed her appreciation of the kind reception accorded . her, and said how happy she was to meet so many friends.
