RUGBY LEAGUE
RANDWICK WIN
Randwick (Wellington) were too good for Ponsonby (Auckland) when these two third grade teams met in the only Rugby League match played in Wellington on Saturday. The game was played at the Winter Show ground and the field was in a very sloppy state. Despite the condition of the ground and ball, however, they managed to give an entertaining display, and there were one or two good movements. In the first spell Randwick started the attack, but Ponsonby retaliated, and it looked as though, an even game would result. The Auckland team found Randwick's defence too good, though, and were troubled by the opposing backs. For Randwick in the first half Wallace scored two tries and Cairns converted a try and put a penalty over. Shilling put over a penalty for Ponsonby. Ponsonby could do little in the second spell and were mainly on the i defensive. The Wellington side's backs I made several bright moves and were too tricky for the Aucklanders. The final score was Randwick 21, Ponsonby 5. Scorers for Randwick: Cleverly, Beban, and Webb, tries; Keaney, a "potted" goal. Hood scored Ponsonby's only try. Mr. L. Davis was the referee. !
